Working with Sean

As a long-time lawyer and executive, Sean can assist with the practical aspects of the things you must navigate: setting goals; exploring options; realty testing; identifying pathways and resources.

However, with advanced training in psychology and over 20 years working with people as a coach and facilitator, Sean also helps you enhance mental agility, psychological flexibility and cognitive hardiness so that you can better overcome challenges and achieve your goals. Importantly, as a Life Stage Doula, Sean will also facilitate conversations about the life you want to live, no matter where you are during your journey. Together, we can explore your hopes and values, wishes and fears, and create greater clarity and alignment and satisfaction in life.

Applied Poetics

Through individual or group coaching, curated retreats, speaking engagements and accompanying the dying, Sean serves as an active partner in helping you find meaning, purpose and contentment as you navigate the challenges of work, relationships and life.

So much about living can be hard, complicated, and unfair. There are all of the necessary and practical things that we must all do every day, that so often seem mundane and tedious. And yet we must do them year-after-year-after-year.

The challenges may involve unreasonable expectations or disappointments at work, or navigating our forever-evolving relationships (in the office, at home). There are the losses that feel like a loss of hope. And most often, the challenges come in times of transition. Some transitions are obvious and apparent, such as when you move forward in your career, or retire after a lifetime of work. However more often, the transitions we face involve cumulative strains that are not clearly defined or outwardly apparent. Such as when your child leaves for college at the same time your father begins his decline and your doctor tells of the matters to which you must attend. All the while, the things at work that once brought you engagement and purpose have grown dull, empty and hollow.

These moments of living demand a response. They can either crush us or open a door to the deepest and most profound experiences of our lives. It is in these times that Sean serves as an advocate, partner, advisor and guide in helping you find greater meaning, purpose and contentment, and fall even deeper in love with life.

A Special Note about Lawyers. As a practicing lawyer for over 30 years and with graduate training in the psychology of attorney well-being, Sean understands the special challenges faced by attorneys. As a profession, lawyers have the highest rates of depression and job dissatisfaction. We are also among the worst in alcoholism, heart disease and whole other parade of horribles. Of course, this is not everyone. And many recognize that there must be something more. Since 2006, Sean has worked directly with lawyers, law firms, and other groups on matters of goal attainment, mental toughness, psychological flexibility, happiness, resilience and meaning.
